Several weeks ago she started doing SRA Reading Laboratory (or some similarly named program) in lieu of regular reading comprehension time during class. There are a few other children in Janie's class that also do SRA. In this program, the kids choose books to read and take computer driven tests to gage their comprehension. They work their way through color coded levels, earning stickers as they go.
Last week she brought a letter home from her teacher telling us that she wanted Janie to join the reading enrichment program (designed to challenge advanced readers). The kids in the program meet with an enrichment teacher once a week for 30 minutes and do additional reading/writing exercises.
Monday she brought home her 2nd quarter progress report. Wow. She's doing very well, received an H (outstanding progress) or H+ in phonetic skills, reading comprehension, oral reading, spelling, math, social studies, art and Spanish.
I have to throw in for my Dad (Mr. Science Professor) that her class didn't receive grades for science 2nd quarter, as they were doing social sciences. Janie received an H+ in science 1st quarter, though.
Go, you - my beautiful, baby girl.
My beautiful baby girl who isn't a baby anymore... she turns 7 in about a week and a half. Just to drive home her unbabiness, here's Janie with two of her friends she's known since birth. This photo was taken at Gabi's (middle) birthday party this past wknd. Lauren's (right) bday is January 26th. Janie's is January 27th. Their moms and I met online while pregnant, over seven years ago. *sniff*
