PT Bound

Janie had her 3wk post cast assessment today and as we suspected, she's going to need physical therapy. Her PA said that considering how bad her break was (level 3 distal humerus/supracondylar fracture) and how long she was in a cast (6 weeks) he isn't surprised that she's not any further along than she is. So there are no worries that she still has a ways to go, which was good news. He said it could be months before she regains her full range of motion.

6 - 8 visits have been ordered, focusing on a home based program, which basically means the physical therapist will show us some exercises for her to do at home and we'll pop in every now and then to see how things are going and to possibly revise her at home sessions. She goes back to the PA in four weeks for another assessment.

She can still practice soccer and can play in a game, but she can't be in the thick of it, no fighting for the ball. She has to stay outside the pack. If you know anything about youth soccer, you know that U8 is still pretty much a pack chasing the ball around, a more skilled pack, but still a pack. They're starting to pass, starting to look outside the immediate area where the ball is, but it's a very limited game. Her being forced to stay away from the area of play and be available for passes will be a good thing, I think. It'll force her to approach play differently.

ETA: Her PT evaluation is Friday, the 24th at 11:30. I'll update afterwards.

Glad Janie is healing, but she must be frustrated by it regardless. Tell her to hang in there, PT time will go quickly and soon she can be back in the middle of the crowd at soccer.
